Why rituals & creative expression will work
when dealing with grief

When your animal companion dies, your love does not stop.

What does stop is the rhythm.

Waking up together.
The daily glance.
The sound of paws in the hallway.

And then… the silence.
A silence that overwhelms everything.

That silence is not just the absence of sound.
It is the absence of what was familiar —
of a life intertwined with your body, your habits, your heart.

Grief is love without a forwarding address.

But that doesn’t mean it can’t find a place again.

🕯 That’s why remembrance rituals are so important.

They give your love a new foundation.

They make your grief tangible — not to make it heavier, but so you can finally carry it.

And, little by little, weave it back into your life.

That is the way rituals & creative expression can work for you.

In the every day life...

A woman who lost her dog, Luna, told me how every morning began with a cup of coffee… and a wet nose against her knee.

Since Luna was gone, that spot remained empty.

Cold.

She began her days on autopilot.

Until one morning, she decided to do something different.

She set up a small Remembrance Corner by the window where Luna always used to sit and watch.

A photo.
Her collar.
A candle.

Every morning, she now places her coffee at that spot. She takes a deep breath and quietly says,

“Good morning, girl.”

Sometimes she talks about the day ahead.

Sometimes tears come.
Sometimes a smile.

She says:
“It feels like I’m giving her a space again. Not next to me on the couch, but in my heart. And that makes the silence softer.”

Rituals connect.

With your pet.
With yourself.
With everything that still lives within you —

even when it feels as though there is nothing left but loss.

A ritual doesn’t have to be big.
It can be small. Simple. Repetitive.

A candle in a fixed place.
A walk along your favourite path.
A word, a scent, a gesture.

They are anchors.
For when the sea of grief becomes too wild.

Tools for rituals & creative expression

📦Memory boxes & creative tools

A box full of memories: photos, cards, a collar, a drawing, a poem.

You can create them together with us.

—

always with gentle suggestions, writing exercises, and small rituals.

Grief is rarely straightforward. Our chaos cards put words to the jumble of emotions:

🌀 Sadness.

🌀 Fear.

🌀 Gratitude.

🌀 Guilt.

🌀 Loss.

🌀 Shame.

Use them to feel what is going on inside you. Or to start a conversation.

Write a letter to your pet.

Create a memory collage.

Set up a small memory corner in your home.

Or use one of our activities to reflect on what you miss.

🌈 Light ceremony at sunset
🌈 Symbolic letting-go ceremony by the water
🌈 Remembrance walk at your favourite place
🌈 Group ritual with cards and memories

“When Lex died, everything changed. Luz searched for his scent, stayed by his bed. I wrote letters to him, created a small place in the house with his photo. Every evening, I light candles so he can find his way home. Not a grand gesture. But it helps. It keeps him close to me.”

📖 Memorial brunch for the puppies

“We gathered to remember.

At the table—the people, with stories and cake.

We read their names aloud. Corazon. Lex. Lina. Sachemie. Spot.

We also celebrated life—Spike and Nero’s 14th birthday.

Because love never dies.

It just changes form.”

In the Candle's Glow

Warm light coming from far below,
Twinkling, sparkling is the candle’s glow.
All is well up on the ridge,
The place we know as Rainbow Bridge.

Furbabies sleeping in heaven’s light,
Tended by candles in the night.
Peaceful dreams be theirs to keep,
As they slumber in this night so deep.

Hearts on earth that miss them so,
Take comfort in the candle’s glow.
Watching for them in skies above,
Bound eternally by a cord of love.
